Maple Whiskey Sour

I love so many of the cocktails in the sour family, but my ride or die cocktail is the whiskey sour. You can use any spirit you want for this really, but I’m a bourbon fan. I’m also an advocate of using a good bourbon regardless if I’m drinking it neat, or in a cocktail. Each bourbon has it’s own profile, and without getting in the weeds with flavor profiles, pick a good solid easy to find bourbon that mixes well and isn’t too out there for the other flavors being added. I’m a fan of Elijah Craig for my cocktail mixes. Easy to find, standard bourbon flavor profile, and inexpensive. We’re not chasing Pappy Van Winkle here!

  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Maple Syrup
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice or Sour Mix ( 2:1 ratio of Lemon Juice and Lime Juice)
1 Egg White

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake for 20-30 seconds dry…no ice yet! This creates that creamy mouthfeel with the egg white. Add some ice to the shaker and shake until cold (another 15-20 seconds). Pour the mixture through a strainer and serve. Garnish with a Luxardo cherry or slice of citrus.

Notes

Some folks are a bit suspicious of using raw egg white. If that’s the case, most egg products sold in the US are pasteurized so you can get egg whites in the refrigerated section of the grocery store that have been pasteurized. I’m a rebel and just use an egg from the refrigerator!
