Homemade Sour Mix

Sour mix from the store can resemble some off-color looking liquid that might fuel a spaceship. Whenever we travel, we seek out local sustainable products that are farm to market fresh. There’s really no substitute for the real deal. Here’s a simple, at home version of the quintessential sour mix that can be used in every kind of cocktail you can imagine. I’m a ratio guy so I use two parts lemon to one part lime. Easy!

Ingredients

Units Scale

1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 cup water (optional)
1 cup sugar (optional)

Instructions

This recipe is for the whole enchilada. Handy if you are having guests and don’t want to squeeze each drink or mess with measuring out the simple syrup for different cocktails. If you just want the juice, leave out the sugar and water. I mix it this way at home because I frequently substitute the simple syrup (water and sugar) for some other sugar, like Luxardo cherry syrup, agave syrup, or demerara.
